GM to Our Newest Metapurser: Aviez
We Metapursers get twisted in knots over doing the right thing and then agonize over doing it right. Buffeted as we are from one existential crisis to the next, once in a while, someone lovely steps in to provide level-headed, operational ballast. They're amazing at what they do, and just crazy enough to say yes when asked to travel with us to the neverland of decoloniality and diversity.
Today, we're thrilled to welcome this newest Metapurser, Aviez. As with the legendary Brooke and the dapper Veritas, Aviez jumped in the deep end of the pool and worked some pure ops magic at Dreamverse (and rocked a wicked pair of Dr. Martens while at it). We wish her the best and look forward to amazing things from her.
How it started and how it’s going, in her own words:
Sense of Community
For the first 20 years of my life, I lived in an old house on a little street. Our neighbours were like an extension of my family, helping to care for each others children and homes. I am extremely lucky to have felt such a strong sense of community early on. This feeling is something that has stuck with me throughout my life, and I now find myself seeking it out in everything I do.
I owe so much to that community I grew up with; it actually brought me to where I am today, at Metapurse, in an indirect but serendipitous way. One of our neighbours started a company that I joined shortly after graduating. I worked there for about 3 years, making friendships that will last a lifetime. This job is where I met Veritas, before he was a Metapurser. We didn’t stay at this company together long, but we kept in touch ever since.
The Allure of the Metaverse
Just a few short months ago, in August 2021, I started exploring NFTs. My first dive into the Metaverse was with a platform called RCRDSHP. One day after my brother-in-law told me about it, I joined their Discord and oh boy, talk about community. The energy and excitement was addictive, electric, and non-stop. On their next NFT drop, I was able to grab a few packs before they sold out within minutes. The engagement and positivity from the community never stopped, and as I continued to research the NFT space, I was drawn in further and further. I knew that I wanted to be a part of this space, but navigating it alone is confusing and intimidating. For an analytical mind like mine, the FUD can start to take over. Thankfully, I didn’t have to go alone.
I knew Veritas had recently started a job in the NFT art world, so I reached out to him for help getting into the Metaverse. Instead of pointing me in the direction of other companies or resources, he asked me to join him at Metapurse. As anyone else would, I had a million questions. Veritas gave me a peak behind the Metaverse curtain, and I got lost in his passion and excitement. He told me about the team, the vision, the work he’d been doing, and the plans for events like Dreamverse. Throughout our discussion, I opened about 20 new tabs about things he talked about (imagine search terms like who is Beeple, what is a DAO, Metakovan, blockchains, etc. - I’ve come a long way since then), and spent the rest of that night immersed in watching videos, reading articles, listening to past NFT Radio shows, and imagining myself as a Metapurser.
From that discussion we had, it didn’t take long for me to meet Brooke and Twobadour, who echoed the same passion and excitement that I felt from Veritas. I was officially brought onto the team in September 2021, and just over a month later, I found myself in NYC, helping to produce Dreamverse, the biggest party at NFT NYC.
Community brought me to where I am today, and it’s something I’m passionate about growing and fostering in the Metaverse. I had the pleasure of spending over a week with the Metapurse team IRL, hearing Metakovan’s visions and dreams for Metapurse, listening to Twobadour speak passionately about art and artists, and seeing Brooke and Veritas in action to expertly execute the wildest event. I was welcomed into the Metapurse family with open arms, and I’ve overwhelmingly felt the sense of community that I crave.
I know that my story sings of sunshine and rainbows, but I also know the reality that I am extremely lucky to have grown up with an amazing community, to have been connected to wonderful people, and to have been given unbelievable opportunities. I do not take any of this for granted. Rather, I want to use these opportunities and make something great out of it. I strongly feel that Metapurse cares deeply about the crypto art community, providing opportunities to those that otherwise might not have had it, and helping to show the world that it doesn’t matter where you came from or what you’ve done in the past. A true embodiment of “WAGMI.” I’m excited to help the world see what Metapurse is all about.
